🕯️ Coven Collection

Welcome to the Coven Collection — a lineup of some of my favorite witchy movie recommendations that are spooky, stylish, and fun. Perfect for grabbing your best group of witches, a few yummy snacks, and maybe a round (or two) of midnight margaritas 🍹.

Some of these are movies I watched with my best friends back in my teen years, others I’ve fallen in love with more recently — but they’ve all stuck with me. I watched them in the theaters, on VHS over and over, listened to their soundtracks on repeat, copied their style, and wanted that long, flowy hair like Sandra and Nicole.

These are the films that made me fall in love ❤️ with being witchy — a little spooky, a little soft, and surrounded by women who feel like your chosen family. 🖤

Perfect excuse for a margarita 🍸

✨ Practical Magic (1998) HBO

It’s the ultimate sister 👯‍♀️ movie. Cozy, heartfelt, and full of that autumn 🍁 magic that makes you want to curl up on the couch with a blanket and something warm (and maybe spiked drink 🥃). The house, the clothes, the kitchen — that kitchen! — total dream house.

I remember watching this for the first time and just falling in love. The characters, the humor, the heartbreak — it all hits. Did I go back and see it again? Absolutely. And then again when the VHS came out. I’d watch it on repeat, totally obsessed with Sally and Gillian. Their back-and-forth banter, the way they take care of each other, and yes — the way they deal with that evil boyfriend. I mean, what sister wouldn’t help with that?

The soundtrack 💿 is absolute perfection — from Marvin Gaye to the always-enchanting Stevie Nicks and Joni Mitchell. Every time I see a red moon, I think of this movie. One day I’ll figure out how to light a candle by blowing at it. The clothes, the long flowy hair, that small-town charm — it’s all witchy comfort at its finest.

And let’s not forget those midnight margaritas — the scene that lives rent-free in my head forever. The laughter, the chaos, the dancing in the kitchen… it’s everything friendship and sisterhood should feel like.

It’s the kind of movie that makes you want to move into that old house, hang herbs 🌿 by the window, and call your sister just to say hi. It never gets old — just a timeless story about love, family, and maybe a little mischief.

Where chaos, charm, and Cher collide

💋 The Witches of Eastwick (1987) Amzaon Prime

Three of the best women ever — Cher, Susan Sarandon, and Michelle Pfeiffer. I mean… where do I sign up to be the fourth?

I love this movie. The friendships, the chaos, the humor — it’s pure magic. These women start off competing for the same man, then team up to take him down, and it’s chef’s kiss perfection. Jack Nicholson as the devil? Couldn’t have been cast better. He’s sleazy, charming, and just the right amount of gross, yet somehow you can’t look away. He oozes confidence and slime in equal measure — the perfect part for him.

And Veronica Cartwright… OH 👏🏽 MY 👏🏽 GOD 👏🏽. She is hilarious in this movie. Completely unhinged, totally underrated, and even though she’s not one of the main trio, she deserves her own spotlight — she completely steals every scene she’s in. And don’t even get me started on that 🍒 cherry scene — if you know, you know.

It’s the perfect blend of female camaraderie and sweet revenge, wrapped up in witty dialogue, big hair, and chaotic witch energy. Not particularly scary, but 100% a coven movie — one to watch with your besties, margaritas in hand, cheering for the ladies and cackling the whole way through.

🖤 90's witchcore perfection

🕸️ The Craft (1996) Amazon Prime, Tubi

Well, well, well — if it isn’t Skeet Ulrich again 😏. This movie was my absolute favorite growing up. I was in middle school when it came out, and yes, I definitely tried to make my pencil stand up and spin on its own.

We all played “Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board,” blasted the soundtrack on repeat, and desperately wanted those chokers, plaid skirts, and black combat boots. The 90s were truly it — a time when you could summon a storm and look good doing it.

I still own my original VHS 📼 and will never part with it. I wanted to be Sarah, but we all know who the real star was — Fairuza Balk as Nancy. She was pure chaos, unhinged perfection, and you couldn’t take your eyes off her. The eyeliner, the smirk, the way she’d say “We are the weirdos, mister.” Ugh — iconic. (Also, this is where I first learned what a “five-finger discount” was — hah!)

The chemistry between the girls makes this movie — that mix of friendship, jealousy, power, and self-discovery. It’s messy, dark, and a little tragic, but so magnetic. The Craft isn’t just a movie; it’s a whole mood. It’s for the girls who lined their walls with magazine clippings, stayed up late at sleepovers, and believed a good outfit could make you feel invincible.

It’s 90s witchcore at its best — angsty, stylish, and a little dangerous. 🖤

Christina Ricci = Goals

🌒 Sleepy Hollow (1999) Paramount

I’ll always love a Tim Burton movie, and this one’s easily one of my favorites. It’s spooky and stylish with that weird, dark humor he does so well — foggy forests, crooked trees, and everyone looking like they’re one bad dream away from a curse.

Johnny Depp plays Ichabod Crane, sent to investigate a series of beheadings in this eerie little town, and of course, it’s never just about the Headless Horseman. There’s witchcraft, secrets, and plenty of strange characters hiding something. Lady Van Tassel? Total scheming witch energy — I adore her for it.

And then Christina Ricci as a blonde? Love it. But honestly, she can do no wrong. She’s this soft, mysterious “white witch” type that balances out all the gloom perfectly. The whole movie hums with quiet witchy energy — protection charms, whispered spells, and that feeling that the whole town’s cursed.

Of course, Danny Elfman comes in to seduce my ears with his music once again — no one does spooky symphonies better. And Christopher Walken as the Headless Horseman? Those sharp teeth, that stare — terrifying and hilarious at the same time. Pure Burton magic.

Sleepy Hollow is that perfect mix of gothic and fun — dark, over-the-top, and completely rewatchable. It’s spooky season in movie form.

Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?

🐐 The Witch (2015) HBO

Watch trailer hereThe Witch is one of those movies that quietly crawls under your skin and stays there. Set in 1630s New England, it follows a Puritan family that gets exiled from their colony and ends up living on the edge of a dark forest. I mean what could possibly go wrong?

I remember seeing this in theaters and freaking myself out before it even started — that trailer alone was enough. It’s a slow burn, but it pulls you in fast. Between the creepy twins singing their little fairytale song, the eerie forest, and that goat (hello, Black Phillip 👀), you can feel something evil just waiting to happen. The tension builds and builds until you’re clutching the blanket, muttering, “nope, nope, nope.” And that ending? Chills. Pure chills.

It’s a quiet, unsettling kind of scary — the kind that makes you turn on a light when you walk past a mirror. But it’s also beautiful in that dark fairytale way. The costumes, the fog, the silence — everything feels like a painting that’s about to come alive.

By the time it ends, you’re not sure if you should be scared or proud of her. “Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?” feels less like a question — and more like an invitation. Beware — this one’s creepy. You’ve been warned.

🌙 That’s it for the Coven Collection - The Witchy Movie Recommendations!

I hope you found something witchy to watch or rediscovered an old favorite. There’s a little something for everyone — sisterly spells, gothic curses, eerie forests, and plenty of midnight margaritas.

I hope something magical came of this — maybe you found a new favorite, maybe you rewatched an old one, or maybe you remembered there’s a little witch in all of us. There were so many to choose from this time, but maybe those will make it into next year’s list.

For now, grab your cozy blankets, call your coven, and enjoy the witching hour. See you next week for The Last Reel, the grand finale of The Purr Purr Press Halloween movie series. 🖤
